Meet The Landicity Founders

Each wandering through their own tangled warrens of concern with environmental protection, activism and geo-spatial relations, four entrepreneurs converged in a clearing. Each approaching from a new direction, they stopped, stared at each other for a moment and then met at the center.

On the first night, they walked the land, listening, feeling the rhythm. The ebb and flow. On day two, they staked the boundaries, both literal and virtual. On day three, between two straight and mighty white pines, they hung a hand carved sign:

Welcome to Landicity....and a community began to form around them.

Landicity was founded by four entrepreneur veterans of digital mapping, spatial information systems and geographic information systems. Each concerned with community, education and the environment, they have joined to establish Landicity:

Bob has more than 25 years experience in Information and Mapping technology. As Director, Federal Systems at DeLorme Mapping (one of the premier mapping companies in the world), he launched desktop digital mapping, scanning services, mission planning support tools, and imagery overlay systems.

Bob has held executive VP positions with start-up companies developing commercial and government digital map raster image data, virtual reality and simulation technology applications.

Holding degrees in Civil Engineering and Survey Engineering from the University of Maine, Orono, he currently lives in Brunswick, Maine with his wife Judy and daughter Elizabeth.

Michael Blakeman, Executive Vice President

Mike has served as the Founder and CEO of a privately held international information technology company for 10 years. He has 25 years of entrepreneurship leadership in marketing and business development roles.

Prior to Landicity, Mike was the founder of Info International, LLC, a company that manufactured digital mapping information technology and co-developed software for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications. He has lead cooperative projects with the USGS, FEMA, USFS, US Census Bureau, BLM, US Army, Corp of Engineers, CIA, and FBI.

Mike has received several awards and recognitions including “CEO of the Year”, 1996, by the Kaufman Foundation for Entrepreneurship’ and twice (1996 & 1998) the “Most Innovative Product in Colorado Award” presented by The Denver Business Journal.

Mike lives in Parker, Colorado and holds a B.S. from the University of Toledo.

Carey - Mr. OutdoorsCarey Gersten, Vice President of Marketing & Sales

Carey is a versatile business professional, bringing over 20 years of broad sales, marketing and operations management experience in GIS software and Internet technology products and services. He has provided management leadership to forward thinking companies such as Microsoft, Statistical Sciences, DataWeb and Online Interactive.

Carey also instructs with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) teaching outdoor and leadership skills in remote wilderness settings, and is the co-author of the classic sea kayaking guidebook for northwest waters.

Carey has an MBA from Boston University, a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University. He has also pursued post-graduate studies at Wesleyan University in the application of computer technology. He lives in Washington State.

Don - Mr. PhotoDonald Jenkins, Director of Technology & Operations

Don brings twenty years of leadership experience beginning as a data processing administrator and business controller. He blends broad knowledge and experiences in fiscal and business operations with technical skills and experiences in business development.

Throughout his career, Don has held many technical certifications including early Novel and Microsoft Certified Engineer and Instructor status, he is itSMF Foundation Certified in ITIL and until recently was a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

Don earned a degree in Hospitality Administration from the Whittemore School of Business and Economics at the University of New Hampshire in 1984 and currently lives in a barn in Litchfield, Maine with his wife Margaret.
